Gilgamesh P. 65-92

The final pages of Gilgamesh describe how Utnaphism tells the story to Gilgamesh of why he granted eternal life. This is a lot like the Bible stories and Jwish beliefs of the Arch of Noe. There is going to be a flood in the banks of the Euphrates river, and the gods tell him to escape with his family and a boat. This boat has to contain each living thing so that they save fro the flood. This is exactly like the story of the Arch of Noe when God tells Noe that there is gonna rain straight for 7 days and no one is going to save themselves. Soon Noe takes his family and takes two of each animal species in his arc so they can later recreate. When God punished men this way it was called The Universal Flood, and many people were killed. When it all ended God made a pact with men telling them that he would never punish men tahat way again. (The symbol of this pact became the rainbow). It also relates because he spent 7 days doing it, which are the same number of days that God created Earth, therefore it symbolizes that it was a very important accomplishment to be done. After all of this ha happened and the Universal Flood had ended Utnaphism and his wife were named god and goddess, and were granted eternal life in heaven.

Finally when its time for Gilgamesh to go, he thanks Utnaphism, and the boatmen help him freshen up. The boatmen and himself traveled a lot to get to the city of Uruk. Suddenly Gilgamesh remembers about his Drum and Drumstick (which obviously symbolizes something different) and Enkidu agrees to get them for him. After, they encounter each other and Enkidu describes him how it was in the under world and that the vermin ate his body. Enkidu describes Gilgamesh how it is among the dead and he responds with a quote I really liked "Garbage is what he eats en the nether World. "No dog would eat the food he has to eat"...

Gilgamesh P. 47-65

"There they established that there is life and death. The day of death is now set, though not made known".

I think the person who wrote this quote is very wise and most importantly is : CORRECT. It tells that even though we all know we are going to die, we dont exactly know when. There are two theories: one says that destiny is written and is simply ment to be. Therefore no one can change it. But also they say that life goes with the "flow". And things just tend to happen as you mature and evolve. I incline more towards this option. If (for example) at the beginning of your life you are an evil human being who harms others and does not follow rules then, afterwards you are gonna get bad consequences. But if in the course of your life you realize what you have done and regret what youve done maybe it will get better.

Destiny is something fascinating. Its not a typical story which we already know the ending of, but it is uncertain. The only thing we know for shure in our lives is that they will end, and we will die. What we dont know is when, how, and where...

Gilgamesh P. 36-47

Enkidus faith is chosen by the Gods of Council, and it is definite: he must die. He starts to get very sick and each time he gets closer to the abism of death. Gilgamesh takes care of him like a good brother. Enkidu cursed everyone and blamed everybody for his sickness, but that wasnt doing him any good. It was useless because hatred is like a venomn that only poisons the one that feels it.

Before his death Enkidu said that he didnt want to be fotgotten. Gilgamesh did all possible to honor his bravery ans soul. He made him an altar and a sculpture. He also wore fur coats to honor Enkidu and his love and passion for nature. These things were dedicated to his bravery in combat and in life. He grieved his friend until the end.

Gilgamesh 21-36

"Two people, companions, they can previal together against the terror" P.27

When I read this quote I thought it was very interesting and liked it a lot. Gilgamesh and Enkidu said this to each other when they were fighting and having hard times wih Huwawa. It basically says that when two people are together in somehing and help each other out, their fears go away. When they were sort of loosing their hope and were being defeated just by listening these words they would feel better. These are perfect words of encouragement and not for just them but for everyone. They won the battle and even in times when they were not fighting they said it to each other in different occasions. They said these to amke them know that they were not alone, they had someone who would always be there to help them and support them. In other words these quote means (in my interpretation) "I will always help you and be there for you to get over your fears and terrors".

Gilgamesh

When I first started reding Gilgamesh I rewalized that the author repeats the same exact texts many times. I thought this was very curious and interesting. What i took out of my reading was:they tell us about Gilgamesh and who he is. He rules the city and is the stronges, most intelligent created great terror. But then there is also Uruk who lives in the wild and knows a lot about nature. Shamhat seduces him and then takes him to the city where he confronts with Gilgamesh. They fight but they end up as ¨brothers¨. Enkidu tells him something about the Cedar forest and that it is very dangerous, but he decides to go and face it. I think this shows sa lot of respect and courage from Gilgameshs part. So far im liking the book a lot.
